Gum Bichromate, Unique Prints on Paper
Awbury Arboretum, Cope Gallery, Philadelphia, PA
2023
Instability extends my ongoing Visible Obscured series, a meditation on the dialogue between process and subject. Working with a luminous palette of gum bichromate pigments, I reimagine the landscape of Awbury Arboretum as both memory and invention.
Red pigments mark the fallen trees—remnants of life folded back into the earth—while yellow tones summon a sunset that never was. Through the act of layering and erasure, I trace the forest’s quiet cycles of growth and decay, its slow transformations mirrored in the surface of each print.
What emerges is not a faithful record, but a reverie: a space where what is seen and what is felt intertwine, and where process becomes a way of listening to the landscape itself.
